Wind Generated Megawatt-hours = 2,332,853 Natural Gas-fired Generated Megawatt-hours =2,237,068

Congratulations, Governor King and Baldacci, your visions for a Saudi Arabian Wind Empire for Maine has been attained. The annual in-state electricity generation from wind surpassed the in-state electricity generation from natural gas for 2017. With that,  the state is now in a perilous situation with more intermittent power eclipsing reliable power. And with another 400 plus megawatts of wind power projects hustling to adorn the state's hills and barely a drip of natural gas available for electric plants in the winter months, we could soon be an intermittently powered state.

Dan, Thanks for the clarification. have to separate SO from delivery , which incidentally is also.0792. Don't worry I know what the real agenda is.  DGG

.0792 is the 2018 standard offer price that most residential customers opt for. Traditionally it is higher than the new customer offer from competitive energy providers who work from the same playbook as cable providers.

I hope the SO isn't more than .1049 come January, but the market is very volatile right now, nevertheless. the price is going to shock ratepayers and the whole market will justifiably be scrutinized. All I can say about that is do not believe anything the politicians and enviro groups tell you about what is causing it.

Thank you but what electricity Maine @ .1049 versus CMP .0792?

Dudley, Taking a simplistic approach by using the 2018 monthly wholesale energy price averages reported by ISO-NE and combining that with forward capacity costs as reported, finds a 37% increase and a 100% + increase, respectively.

Although forward market capacity (FMC) costs can be calculated by retailers for the year ahead bids, I think they were caught by surprise by the climb in energy costs which should have been subdued by the massive increase in FMC increase of 2018. Energy costs are hard to predict.
2019 will see the same FMC costs and with no change in the natural gas situation, energy costs will,  at the very least , remain high.
Finally the 12 month fixed cost offered by the competitive energy provider Electricity Maine is presently 10.49 cents per kw-hr.

Dan, PUC sent RFQ's for the standard offer electric rate effective 01/01/19 Rumors indicate a 20-30% increase from .0792 on the CMP side. Do you know anything about it since we are 4 weeks from some increase  Thanks  Dudley

Maine generation: 2017

   Hydro @ 30.1%
   Biomass @ 24%
   Wind @ 20.7%
    NG  @ 19.8%
The Maine Renewable Portfolio Standard for Class I & Class II electricity sources is set at 40% Hydro and Biomass in-state generation = 54,1% and 95% of this requirement is met with the purchases of in-state hydro and biomass.
And the reason we need wind is why ?  The in-state wind power is used by Southern New England states for compliance with their RPS.
Maine is now a net importer for it's electricity consumption, much which comes out of New Brunswick with majority hydro and nuclear power.
And the next big thing coming is solar, another intermittent energy source. Big time solar like Farmington's proposed 77 megawatt plant will be sold to the south for their RPS .

If this was the annual production total

2,332,853 / 385 turbines = 6059.36 per turbine

6059.36 / 365 days = 16.60 per day

16.60 per day / 24 hours = 0.6917 per hour

= 691707.58 Kwh per hour.

This still shows, or proves, these things are only 23.06% productive if and when they work.  (based on NPR)

Natural gas and other forms of energy are On Demand.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
