A dramatic political shift against wind energy in Vermont threatens to derail the last remaining wind project under development in the state....................................................
“It is interesting and also disturbing that Vermont has had this arc of success in developing wind and then having it come circling back to the difficulty it is having now, especially when you realize that America’s first large-scale grid connected wind turbine was installed here at Grandpa’s Knob, near Castleton,” said Olivia Campbell Andersen, executive director of Renewable Energy Vermont.
“I was always proud that Vermont was a leader in wind,” said David Blittersdorf, founder of AllEarth Renewables, which is developing Dairy Air Wind. “Now it’s really sad that we’ve gone from the first state with wind and now we’re ready to abandon wind when it’s one of the lowest-cost renewables.”
Blittersdorf grew up with the wind industry in the state and in some ways is responsible for its growth.

Wilton board votes to intervene in CMP’s transmission line
WILTON — The Board of Selectpersons voted 3-0-1 Tuesday to file a petition with the Public Utilities Commission to intervene in Central Maine Power Co.’s New England Clean Energy Connect project.
Chairperson Tiffany Maiuri, David Leavitt and Keith Swett voted for the filing, Phillip Hilton abstained and Tom Saviello was absent.

Regarding the Vermont situation, the state is fortunate to now have a Governor who does not favor wind power development; while Maine's current Governor Paul LePage railed against wind, he did little administratively to oppose wind power development in spite of constant pressure to do so from wind opponents.
Also, now that Obama is out of office, the threat of allowing the National Forests to become wind power sites is gone. Both VT & NH have nearly all undeveloped land in the National Forests. By contrast, Maine has vast amounts of land controlled by landowners who willingly lease forest land to wind developers in exchange for yearly income on land that might tale 40 to 60 years to yield another timber harvest.
Until we can change the heinous "Wind Energy Law" (PL 661) or have a Governor who will actively oppose wind development, we will continue to be fair game for wind developers. This is especially true if the wind industry and their cronies defeat the proposed Hydro Quebec line.
We vote in just more than a month. A vote for Janet Mills is a vote FOR wind power. A vote for Shawn Moody is a vote AGAINST wind power. Both independent candidates are against on-shore wind power development. The Moody campaign was very receptive to a detailed anti-wind presentation I prepared for Friends of Maine's Mountains. I cast my vote for Shawn Moody!
