Interesting take from an Iowan Newspaper.

Wind power, jobs and the gullible

We often hear wind power is generating lots of jobs for Iowans. How true is this? Wind power is subsidized by taxpayers, because it cannot support itself or the jobs it claims without subsidies in the form of tax credits. This means we, the taxpayers, are paying for the jobs claimed by wind power. Check out the Production Tax Credit (Iowa Code 476C) if in doubt.

Let’s be honest and call subsidies what they are — a giveaway — paid for by us, the taxpayers. How about a comparison of the different power sources and how many jobs they create versus the level of taxpayer-funded subsidies (giveaways) they receive?

It is also important to note many wind power jobs are in construction and are therefore short term/temporary. The case for wind power is beginning to sound like something out of “The Music Man.” How gullible will we Iowans be?

This guy sounds a lot like me!!!! We need real facts, not lobbyist rhetoric and wind lies.

Maybe someone would like to submit this or their own to the PPH, BDN or Sun Times

I LIKE YOUR PARABLE LONG ISLANDER ! The subsidies that the WINDPOWER DEVELOPERS Get are paid for by ALL American tax-payers- and that is a fact ! THe construction Jobs that that are created Constructing these Wind Turbines and Accompanying Infrastructure - are paid for by the DEvelopers- but the money that the DEVELOPERS get for their POWER comes partially from THe TAX=-Payers and the rest from the Rate PAyers! The Construction Company (ERECTORS) get paid indirectly thru the U.S. TAX-Payers by WIND POWER PRODUCTION CREDITS - Provided by the U.S. TAXPAYERS, and yes the COnstruction jobs are very short lived! SO U MIGHT SAY the U.S. TAXPAYERS Own a POrtion of every WIND TURBINE constructed in this Country!

I was in Iowa in June. Believe me...they get it! Wind turbines  are scattered everywhere and just like here, they don't move! There, everyone gets to see it, so it is very difficult to sell someone a different story!

The broken window fallacy was first expressed by the great French economist, Frederic Bastiat. Bastiat used the parable of a broken window to point out why destruction doesn't benefit the economy.

In Bastiat's tale, a man's son breaks a pane of glass, meaning the man will have to pay to replace it. The onlookers consider the situation and decide that the boy has actually done the community a service because his father will have to pay the glazier (window repair man) to replace the broken pane. The glazier will then presumably spend the extra money on something else, jump-starting the local economy. (For related reading, see Economics Basics.)

The onlookers come to believe that breaking windows stimulates the economy, but Bastiat points out that further analysis exposes the fallacy. By breaking the window, the man's son has reduced his father's disposable income, meaning his father will not be able purchase new shoes or some other luxury good. Thus, the broken window might help the glazier, but at the same time, it robs other industries and reduces the amount being spent on other goods.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
