Sun Journal: Greenwood Ordinance Voters Overwhelmingly Reject Wind Power

206 votes for the protective ordinance and 41 against meaning 83% of the vote went against wind. Congratulations Greenwood.

Funny how the wind industry's rigged polls tell us just the opposite. Folks, these ordinance votes are the real polls. When put to a real vote, over 90% of protective wind ordinances pass. What is it about "Mainers don't want wind power" do the politicians, paid off environmental groups and completely biased media not understand?

Sun Journal article

GREENWOOD — Greenwood residents Monday overwhelmingly approved proposed amendments to the commercial wind farm section of town ordinance, effectively banning such farms through a new tower height restriction.

The vote was 206-41.

Due to the large turnout, the meeting started 45 minutes late. But there was no discussion or questions posed, and the secret ballot began quickly.

The Calpine Corporation has been studying the feasibility of putting a 13-turbine Long Mountain Wind Farm project in the area of Long, Tibbetts and Elwell mountains.

In the previous ordinance there were no tower height limits specified. Greenwood’s Ordinance Review Committee recommended limiting heights to 250 feet. Calpine said it would need towers that are more than 500 feet for the project to be viable.

Amy, I am so pleased that as a Select Board member in Greenwood, you opposed not only the specific Calpine proposal but supported the incredible strengthening of your wind ordinance.  I expect you found this organizations's website to be loaded with useful information regarding the scourge of industrial wind power.
Arthur is one of the original wind warriors.  He doesn't wish to demean you, but he does react to the history of the wind industry in Maine and how they work.  Perhaps Calpine worked a bit differently than other developers, notably, First Wind, Patriot Renewables, Independence Wind, and their cronies.  As a Select Board member, I hope you encourage your peers in other towns that are threatened by the proliferation of industrial wind to take preemptive steps to craft an ordinance that allows wind power installations with restrictive language based on the best interests of the community and the community's "sense of place".

Amy,your naivete concerning the wind issue in Maine is only superceded by your lack of history in the state concerning this issue. Read CTFWP posts years back herein to become more educated on the issue.

Good luck!

@arthur qwenk: Please explain what you mean by "Not enough graft money was offered to the town officials." As a selectman in Greenwood who opposed Calpine's proposed project from the beginning and supported the folks who campaigned for the more restrictive ordinance, I resent the implication that my political influence (such as it is), or that of either of my fellow selectmen, is up for grabs on this or any other issue. We were never approached by Calpine or anyone else with an offer of "graft money," and, if we had been, we certainly would have made a big, noisy fuss about it to the media.

This well-organized group and its offshoots who have successfully opposed specific wind projects have much to be proud of, but when you post offhand remarks like this without any basis in fact, it diminishes your group's influence by bringing it down to the level of a fringe element with little regard for accurate reporting. Please don't let that happen, as there is obviously still a lot of work to be done, and it is best done by going into the fight well-armed with facts, and only facts, and by keeping in mind that most town officials in small Maine towns are not your enemy.

Calpine will be back with more of the  taxpayers subsidy money in an attempt to reverse their vote. Not enough  graft  money was offered to the town officials and vested interests to influence  the vote it seems.  Greenwood citizens should maintain their vigilance.

In addition ,the Wind Bastards and Wind Mafia that have infiltrated the State House in   Augusta   rely on the citizens to become complacent in order to  continue their push for wind scamming in the State of Maine.

But, the word is out in Maine about the farce that is called wind power. The more they learn ,the more it will be actively rejected.

Logic and reason prevail! Hooray to the Greenwood residents for voting to protect their environment, their wildlife, their health and their property values.

They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
