I haven't yet watched but look forward to doing so this evening. Hopefully fact checkers can review and comment if warranted.

Gary Crocker's "Last Word" was the highlight of the piece. Hallie Gilman put out some significant numbers (lies) and Rand was not given as much time to refute them as he needed. She said 80% of Mainers are pro wind and that may well be so, considering the largest population is concentrated in Southern Maine that may well be true.  But let's get a vote in the areas that are directly affected by wind turbines and see what the % is there. As far as the pricing goes recent years of inflation have made it look like the energy prices are just normally going up like everything else. Generally homes use so few Kwh per month the rise seems to be affordable. Where the rub is when you have industrial users where a few cents per Kwh makes a big difference. But they could come down a long way is we had adequate gas supply for our use.

Rand did a great job, He has experienced the trials and tribulations along with the many grassroots wind warriors of Western Maine as we marched against the scourge that invaded us, He is very aware of the vast number of forgotten stakeholders that remain staunchly against mountain wind development ( a membership that far outnumbers the wind enthusiasts ).

Even after the condescending treatment received from Augusta policy makers and shakers, the forgotten stakeholders can't be ignored anymore. .We were right all along.

Two absolutely false statements by Ms. Gilman.

1. Wind prices are comparable to other sources. She used a 5 cent per kilowatt-hour figure. The true price of wind is hidden in secretive contracts from utilities buying direct from the wind developers. These prices are always above retail electric supply prices, in the range of 8 cents to 10 cents per kilowatt-hour. A simple FERC Generator File download reveals that. Add the additional extra federal subsidies and tax breaks and the prices go to 11 cents to 13 cents.

2. She said 80% of the neighbors to wind turbines are favorable to them. She didn't say how close the neighbors that she is counting are. Once you take out the landowners that lease or sell property for turbines and the landowners granting easements for gag order money, you have to go to Maine's large populated areas and Maine's highest visited tourist areas where turbines can't be installed to get somewhere around a 50% favorable reception.

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
