New Englanders Have Only Themselves to Blame for Energy Price Spikes

In large measure, you can thank Maine's so called environmental groups and their comrades in Mother Massachusetts for your high electricity prices. These  wind pushing and wind-industry protecting elites invariably claim the high moral ground, yet via high electricity costs they are doing terrible harm to the poorest folks in Maine, to say nothing of the middle class.

New England — including Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island — is the only part of the country that has constrained supplies of natural gas. This constraint is largely self-induced by “above-ground” political issues. Local and state opposition have blocked a number of natural gas pipelines in recent years, with the result that the region hasn’t benefited from the gas production growth in the Marcellus shale formation in nearby Pennsylvania

This means that the 50,000 miles of U.S. natural gas pipelines built during the past decade largely skipped New England, leaving the region with the highest electricity prices in the United States. A study by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce found residents in the Northeast pay 44 percent more than the national average for electricity and 29 percent more for natural gas. Industrial users of electricity pay 60 percent more than the national average, according to the Chamber.

Maine people  have been diagnosed by wind shysters as a passive lot of modest means, rather easily manipulated by money and fearing involvement  , politically and otherwise.

Basically,  Too few people living on  too much land, too much passivity and rarely  being threatened by outside  power influence. Until now.

Perhaps more back yards have to be influenced by infrasound, loss of wild habitat and view shed, perhaps.

Frank, taking the heat for land-based wind turbines ? Nearly every wind facility in Maine sells it's output by long term contract with Massachusetts utilities. The heat in the form of a Mass. tax on Mass. purchased Maine Wind would really pay us back.

Maine residents are going to take the heat of land-based wind turbines causing massive health and property takings in Massachusetts -- Falmouth, Massachusetts is ground zero for poorly placed wind turbines in the US

For those concerned about possible missteps when developing wind energy projects, the story of Falmouth’s municipal wind turbines is instructive. These 400- foot turbines, known as Wind 1 and Wind 2, were each intended to generate 1.65 megawatts of clean energy for Falmouth’s municipal wastewater treatment plant, with excess output sold to the electric utility. Economic studies supported the turbines’ $10 million cost. Unfortunately, the benefits have fallen short, because of negative impacts on neighbors and resulting litigation.

After the turbines became operational, nearby residents complained about sound pressure, noise and flickering shadows from the turbines, causing insomnia, headaches and other health issues. Several lawsuits followed, with neighbors claiming that the turbines were nuisances that violated zoning laws. A Barnstable Superior Court judge issued an injunction in 2013, limiting the turbines’ operating hours to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays.

As of January the Massachusetts Superior Courts have shut down both Falmouth wind turbines as they are a nuisance -- The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center is now taking aim at the residents of other states including Maine

Time to stop the insanity ?

Does anyone ever wonder why Maine, NH and Vermont don't secede from the regional electric network that includes Mass. and Conn., when these 3 states are the gateway to clean, immense quantities of Canadian Hydro ?

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
