Governor's Energy Office Advises They Did Not Broadcast Today's Energy Meeting

Here's the latest via an email at 2:10PM today, 12/29/17. This, despite the fact that this was announced as a meeting one could audio stream on the EUT website.

================================================================

12;56 PM Dec 29, 2017 status:

I was just notified by a wind warrior who was in Augusta that "I called the LIO and they said it was supposed to have been streamed. They also said the meeting ended at noon. "

Note the website still shows the meeting as in progress.  So for whatever reason, the public was told about the meeting and was notified it would be streamed. In fact, I suspect some members of the public may have decided to "attend" the meeting via the scheduled streaming rather than attend in person.

It would be a nice basic courtesy if they would post status updates online so people don't waste their time waiting for their speakers to start speaking, e.g, today the update might have said:

UPDATE
The live streaming for today's energy meeting which was scheduled on this website right up until now will not be available because we have decided not to make it available. So for those of you who had been counting on the audio and perhaps had thus decided not to attend the meeting in person, BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME.

=================================================================

On the scene report: EUT Meeting ended at 12PM Today and Was Never Streamed as Scheduled

==================================================================

The start time for today's meeting was published as 10:00 am in the Press Herald and 8:00 am  on the EUT Committee website. As of 9:45am there was no audio at http://legislature.maine.gov/Audio/#211

Perhaps the meeting is in fact starting at 10:00 am and audio will be available online at that time.

Again, the website for live audio is:

http://legislature.maine.gov/Audio/#211

For what it's worth, the EUT website currently states that the meeting is in progress.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BEWARE - as noted below, these hearings are being coordinated by the "Environmental & Energy Technology Council of Maine", known as E2Tech. This organization is a cheer leader for wind power in Maine. This can be readily seen by a quick trip to their website: http://www.e2tech.org/projects/wind-energy

A look at their board of directors indicates various pro-wind affiliations such as Brooke Barnes of Stantec, John Carroll of Avangrid, Phil Coupe of ReVision Energy, David Ertz (formerly) of First Wind and Elizabeth Swain of Barton & Gingold. See: http://www.e2tech.org/about/board#Barnes

The above screenshot from the EUT website says the starting time is 8:00am. The article below states 10:00am, If anyone can clarify, please do.

The Governor’s Energy Office is asking Mainers for their input in developing an Energy Planning Roadmap, aimed at advancing the state’s energy, economic development and environmental goals.

The road map will use the 2015 state comprehensive energy plan update as a starting point. It has broad objectives: achieve energy and cost savings in the residential, commercial, industrial and transportation sectors; reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions; and support the growth of a robust state and regional energy market and workforce.

The office is working with the Environmental & Energy Technology Council of Maine, known as E2Tech, to hold public hearings on how to target strategies to meet these objectives.

Dates and locations have been rescheduled from earlier this fall. All meetings are from 10 a.m. to noon.

Sad but very true. You have to record and keep record of everything with these liars.

Comment by Dan McKay on December 30, 2017 at 10:20am

A public meeting, as these were advertised, with prior outreach to the public for comments, should be recorded and the records made available to the general public which could elicit further comment. I wasn't there, I want to know what happened.

Good Morning Senator:

There is no way I can leave Greenville and the old house I am in with temps and winds that we're having and can not be at the Energy Plan Meeting scheduled for tomorrow morning.

"BEWARE - as noted below, these hearings are being coordinated by the "Environmental & Energy Technology Council of Maine", known as E2Tech. This organization is a cheer leader for wind power in Maine. This can be readily seen by a quick trip to their website: http://www.e2tech.org/projects/wind-energy

I would ask that you consider my point of worry. It looks like the deck is stacked against the good people of Maine with E2Tech as an advisor to the committee.  We need to be VERY CAREFUL, look at the board of E2Tech! A quick look at their board of directors indicates various pro-wind affiliations such as Brooke Barnes of Stantec, John Carroll of Avangrid, Phil Coupe of ReVision Energy, David Ertz (formerly) of First Wind and Elizabeth Swain of Barton & Gingold. See: http://www.e2tech.org/about/board#Barnes"

A broader look at E2Tech's Board:

Here is a sample of board members who make their MONEY form BIG WIND:

  (full board http://www.e2tech.org/about/board )

Chad Allen, Senior Project Engineer Cianbro Corporation

Chad’s responsibilities shifted to support the growth of wind energy in our region, including development, project construction, and maintenance.

John Carroll has served as Director of Communications for Iberdrola USA since 2013 where he has responsibility for internal and external communications, brand, reputation and social responsibility. In 2002 he joined Central Maine Power; one of Iberdrola USA’s operating companies...

Phil Coupe, Co-owner ReVision Energy

managing partner and co-founder of ReVision Energy, a certified B Corp and the largest solar energy company in northern New England with more than 6,000 systems placed in service in ME, NH, and MA since 2003.

David Ertz, Director, Construction Management First Wind's

responsible for the engineering and construction activities associated with First Wind’s projects in the Eastern U.S.

William V. Ferdinand, Jr., Eaton Peabody

an attorney with Eaton Peabody who focuses his legal practice on environmental and land use law.

John M. Ferland, President and Chief Operating Officer Ocean Renewable Power Company

Elizabeth W. Swain, Director of Strategic Communications
Barton & Gingold, a Division of POWER Engineers

Her work has focused on permitting clean energy projects, including wind, hydro, and natural gas, and providing strategic consultation and community relations on electric transmission and pipeline projects, conservation easements, comprehensive planning, transportation projects, solid waste and Superfund.

permitting counsel for on- and off-shore wind projects, hydro power and wood-to-biofuel facilities, as well as many other commercial development projects. He continues as the attorney for the only deepwater offshore wind power project in North America.

We're already a net exporter of electrical power and can't let Massachusetts use Maine as their toilet!

E-mail sent to Rep. O'Connor

Understanding that the GEO/E2Tech meeting at the EUT Committee Room 211 was going to be streamed live audio online, several of us didn't expend the time and money to attend and at -17 Friday morning in Greenville it wouldn't have been smart to leave the house and be away for many hours.  It wasn't streamed and we're in the dark and with no input.........

Comment by Art Brigades on December 30, 2017 at 9:45am

To be clear, it wasn't a public hearing and it wasn't even a legislative meeting, so it wasn't operated under the Administrative Procedure Act (disclosure, notice, etc.). It was the Governor's office seeking public input via a series of meetings around the state. This one happened to be in a legislative committee room which has broadcast capability, so it would have been an easy public courtesy to broadcast it. Comment can still be submitted at the next meeting or directly to the Governor.

I'm not one to plagiarize, but I wonder if the system is rigged.

Any information presented or discussions at the meeting are supposed to be recorded via usage of the microphones, so at minimum, there should be the audio transcript.

Write in to request a second public meeting as well.

I did not attend, due to a cold, and I doubt that any other independent video was recorded.

The Wind Mafia Maine at work.

This is their modus operandi ,deny public access and control the game. (Only if allowed to though).

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
