Is any of the money going to wind "farm" maintenance and repair one wonders?
Pingree is a resident of North Haven. She says the electrical energy for the islands' grid is mostly generated on Vinalhaven by a community-owned wind farm.

Vinalhaven: Pingree Announces $1.5 million USDA "Investment" for Energy Improvements
According to USDA Rural Development, funds will be used to improve 5 miles of line and make other system improvements.
The Fox Islands Electric Cooperative is owned by the Maine island communities of Vinalhaven and North Haven, where Congresswoman Pingree is a resident. The electrical energy for the islands' grid is partly purchased from the mainland through our submarine cable, but most of it is generated on Vinalhaven by a community-owned wind farm. The cooperative has approximately 1,950 members.

One of my fellows in the writers group noted the following after reading the BS Pingree sent out on this that I copied him on--good points,and no doubt never things the "reporter" who penned the story would ask or note.

North Haven has highest per capita municipal valuation in county at $1,155,000 and Vinalhaven is second highest (not counting Isle au Haut) at $408,000. Average per capita municipal valuation for all Knox County is $186,600. By comparison, St. George is $332,600, Rockport is $306,200, Camden is $227,700 and Appleton is $92,400. I don’t know what kinds of properties are driving high valuations on the islands, but obviously the state considers these properties to have disproportionately high value.Most recent population figure I’ve seen indicates total population of 1,515 for North Haven and Vinalhaven, which makes me curious as to who the other 435 co-op ‘members’ are. That works out to $993/co-op member. Curious to know how they plan to re-pay the loan. (It did say loan, not grant.)"(from Nick Lapham)Paul

remember ,she also blessed the technological advances of Angus King's wind farm in Roxbury. There was nothing new, however she fast tracked it so he could get his 400,000 success fee before selling out to his partner ,so he could run for the U.S. Senate. These people are so corrupt it defies all imagination but I fear we are asleep. Dudley Gray

Ask if Pingree lives anywhere near the noise generated by the Three GE 1.5MW turbines.
Art Lindgren had to leave the island because of noise, and suffered heart issues from the project.

Ask Art Lindgren, formally of Vinalhaven and a past active opponent of the graft as it relates to those three GE 1.5 mw frauds on the island.
Sussman and Pingree had more pull unfortunately, as "We the People" being actively shafted of our rights was built into Maine's Wind Law of 2008

No wonder they were so motivated to put in lousy wind turbines, Pingree was at the helm all along....Figures....Maine, a corrupt little state.

Ms. Pingree/Sussman should have dipped into her own pockets to upgrade the 5 miles of lines on Vinalhaven. But when you really stop and think about it, $1.5 million is a drop in the bucket compared to the billions spent for the wind "farms" we already have on the mainland. The wind development on Vinalhaven is owned by the residents of the island and if they want to live with it, so be it.
