When I asked him in 2009 about the risks for Maine's forests, Alex Giffen, then Director of the Maine Forest Service and Chair of the Governor's Task Force on Wind Power said, "Fires tend to burn up to the tops of mountains so a wind turbine fire will not spread. And, we have our helicopter fleet." Clearly the fix was in.

Yes Penny this has the potential for a repeat of the Great Fire of 1825 if we had a thriving forest. Bingham Wind has never recovered from the 1965 (approx) fire. The rest of Maine never experienced 1825, as it mostly ran from Bangor up toward Greenville as some of the old-timers of my youth told the tales.
Who will pay the cost? But of course, we the plantation occupants. But it would clear the land for more solar and wind power. Maybe we could even expand our Blueberry Barren Lands and can become berry pickers, rather than cotton pickers.

Eventually this is going to happen in Maine. High winds, dry woods and a fast moving fire in an inaccessible location. Who pays for the damages and the cost of fighting the fire?
