I've always thought that it was very telling that way back some organic farmers tried out having their own wind generators. Never caught on cause they all realized real quick that it wasn't much of a solution to operating off the grid. Too expensive and too unreliable.

"When the government gets involved there is always room for graft and payoffs."

I believe when they created the PTC they consciously built in money for big widespread bribery, knowing that without it, wind would be universally thrown out of every municipality on its ears.

It's time to let the market determine the route we take for the future. Free market forces are how we have always run this country. When the government gets involved there is always room for graft and payoffs. This whole scam was nothing but a money grab from the getgo.

Given the abundance of clean, affordable natural gas, the idea that we have to choose between “dirty” fossil fuels and “clean” renewables is obsolete. The choice is actually between a clean, affordable fossil fuel and clean, but expensive renewables. Once we recognize natural gas as the ideal bridge fuel, we’ll then have a choice between a government-based or market-based method of incentivizing the transition.

Some are currently working on Rights Based Ordinances at the County level to assist in protecting the Unorganized Territories.

Hancock County Water Quality Protection Ordinance to Prohibit Construction of the East West Corridor in the Unorganized Territories of Hancock County

This is currently before the commissioners with a hope for a public hearing soon.

We are at a very critical point in the further development of wind power in the State of Maine. The recent Federal Tax proposal should put an end to wind development as there is no incentive for large investors to get involved with no government subsidies. They can't pocket money upfront and won't be able to sell the power back to the distribution companies at rates that are competitive. T. Boone Pickens (https://hotair.com/archives/2012/04/11/t-boone-pickens-ive-lost-my-...)  and Warren Buffett  (https://www.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/nancy-pfotenhauer/2014/05/12/e...) both major investors in the energy sectors, have said they would NOT invest without government subsidies.

This "Gridwork" development is simply laying the groundwork for bringing whatever power is generated in Maine or purchased from Canada to Southern New England and New York. If there is no development of wind power in Maine, they will leave us alone.

It is imperative that we in Northern Maine work on the LOCAL (town and county) level to pass legislation for our communities like they did in the Moosehead Region. Penobscot, Aroostook, Somerset, Washington, Piscataquis and Hancock Counties must write limiting legislation that will make it so hard for wind developers to erect turbines, they will turn tail and leave us alone. They are working on it in the Bethel area now and need our voices.  These local rules can make the developers have to jump through hoops and cost them lots more that it is worth. Balldacci's expedited  wind law made it too easy and set almost NO rules. It is time to update them.

We can make this work but must be diligent in order to make it work. This is a critical time to finally put a fork in them. They are done.

With this slimy business everything moves forward in backrooms. It has been operating this way for decades. They have  hidden plans to put thousands more turbines throughout the New England states but they will not tell you and this is clearly fraud by omission.  Everywhere near where this line is placed will be in jeopardy of further industrial blight and environmental destruction from already planned wind developments.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
