Maine Tourism - Wind Developers' Defilement of Maine Finally Stirring Decision Makers into Action

It's taken 10 years but decision makers are starting to take a bold stand against the scourge of industrial wind.

The legislators and county commissioners referenced in the article below have taken a strong stand and should be applauded for their support.  The Moosehead region is working very hard to try and stop development – fighting multiple developers and CMP - not any easy task.

ARTICLES TODAY:

Legislators, county commissioners and business owners fear ridge line development will be "a death sentence" to the regional economy.

The PRESS HERALD version of article, is edited and watered down, for example, the PPH version omits several paragraphs such as:

"The board also noted the potential impact on ridgeline aquifers from “blasting to create 60-foot craters” for wind turbine ground pads, the permanent disruption to wildlife habitat and the devastation to the regional tourist economy.

A 2015 regional tourism impact study found that visits to the Moosehead region generated $979 million in tourism dollars that year, with the Piscataquis County side of the region seeing $712 million in year-round sales, commissioners wrote.

“That is serious money for a sparsely populated area in Maine’s most rural county,” they said.

The irony of this proposed development, commissioners said, is that while the Moosehead Lake area will experience the negative consequences of industrial-scale wind power, all of the electricity generated by Somerset Wind will be sent out of state to benefit places that have fought to keep wind turbines out of their own states."

A ruined mountain here, a defiled town's economy there, loss of real estate value for the "little" people, and some sleep deprivation thrown in as a kicker to the deal from infra-sound.

..and when all is said and done, a farce of epic proportion that does nothing for the economy or electricity prices.

Wind, such a bargain!

The more one knows about wind, the less they support it.
It's interesting that this law firm takes full credit for shaping legislation that caused wind to destroy Maine's spectacular mountain views.

Wind friendly regulations brought to you by those who represent 90% of ME wind projects-
They also represent(ed) SunEdison, world's largest renewable company; also the US largest bankruptcy filed in 2016, (listing over $16.1 Billion in liabilities).

SunEdison: Wind Power Development
We represent SunEdison in the development, permitting, construction and operation of its wind power projects in Maine. Our Environmental Group has been instrumental in wind power development since its inception in Maine, not only because we represent over 90 percent of the wind power capacity in the State, but because we have shaped the legislation, regulation and judicial precedent that will make it possible for wind energy development to continue to flourish in the future.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
