Hosting wind projects is a great way to ruin the economy for your neighboring non wind project towns, while being fooled into thinking your own municipal tax pa...yers reap an economic boost.

Of the money received by wind projects :
50% is from Renewable Energy Credits ( a payment granted for the ill-conceived notion of being green). This is an increase cost on electric customers but with no corresponding increase in electrical production.

26% is from the Federal Production Tax Credit/ Investment Tax Credit with is taxpayer money diverted from funding other national programs and handed over to wind developers.

24% is from the energy markets, where valued electricity from Natural Gas-Fired plants, Nuclear Plants and Hydro Plants get 100% of their compensation for production.

So, 3 out of every 4 dollars paid for wind derived electricity is a gift from the ratepayers and taxpayers, whether the town hosts a wind project or not.

Analyzing the Maine State Revenue Service excel spreadsheet on tax impact with a wind power project valued at $ 43,200,000 for Dixfield between the years 2010 to 2014., the mill rate was $16.75 per thousand dollars of valuation in 2010 and would have been $18.38 per thousand in 2014.

A town that has made the wise move to keep wind power projects out of their community gets no comfort from neighboring towns that welcome them. Their electric bills go up, their taxes are given to the useless and if host town elects to TIF the project valuation, towns without projects have to shoulder more than their fair amount of shared education and county tax costs.

These are the Untangible Benefits your local boards won't tell you.

They, the people should call for a vote on a new, corrected ordinance by a petition call. I believe once a petition drive is underway there is a stay (limited time) then once the petition drive goes stale or if it is verified as to validity the call to vote must be held within a specified time or at the next annual meeting.
