Wind Turbine Noise and Human Health - 2016 report

Wind Turbine Noise and Human Health :
A Four-Decade History of Evidence that

Wind Turbines Pose Risks

This important peer-reviewed paper examines 15 years of the authors' combined experience with wind turbine noise issues. The authors respond to the various responses by the wind industry regarding turbine noise and explain why audiologists, particularly those interested in community noise, should embrace the notion that all forms of noise, if sufficiently intense and prolonged, can be detrimental to public health. They also encourage audiologists to be sensitive to the non-auditory aspects of acoustic energy, including the dynamically modulated infrasound and low-frequency sound emitted by modern wind turbines. The background information about the paper is provided below. The link(s) to download the paper are included on this page.

She use to wake herself with her snoring, blaming me until it kept me awake and I had to find another room to sleep in. Then it was the dog's fault, until she died. That is when the need for the audiologist became apparent. By then she did not wake herself and still does not, but also standing face to face at the time she could not hear my voice, but others. Sad....

Truth is right Eric. My husband says I have 'selective hearing'. Now you've explained it. I don't think I snore and I do have a hearing aid - but - my husband's voice is right in my deafness range. Hey, I needed a laugh today and I thank you for giving me one. We tune out background noise that invades our space..................

Finally some truth!

"all forms of noise, if sufficiently intense and prolonged, can be detrimental to public health."

My wife snores (not that I do not at times) at a loud level. After 15 years of the 30 she went to an audiologists as what seemed to be yelling at her by others was an inability to hear my voice. It was determined that her snoring had created her deftness to the frequency range of my voice. She can no longer hear the low rumbles of Semi Trucks also as they pass the house. So no, it is not selective hearing.

Community background noise eventually has the same effect, but we do not recognize this as a problem. Wind turbines will eventually drown out our ability to hear those frequencies which may be important at some point in our lives if warning us of dangers.

With generational accumulative resistance to these noises, it is potentially possible that we will someday not be able to hear those sounds as an un-needed frequency range. Most of the animal kingdom retains better hearing than humans, however Dogs in the wild hear much better than household pets that are accustom to surrounding familiar noises.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
