The second informational meeting on proposed amendments to Franklin County’s tax increment financing agreement with TransCanada Maine Wind Development will be held Wednesday in Carrabassett Valley.
The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Carrabassett Valley Library. A sparsely attended meeting was held on the changes in Farmington last month. The meetings are meant to brief county residents on the proposed changes and gather their input in advance of a formal public hearing on Oct. 4.

It looks like the industrial wind charlatans are focusing more and more on Maine because we have some of the stupidest people in New England. The other five states are collectively saying Get Lost to the lying, welfare queens in the wind industry while Maine's retarded legislators aided by corrupt "environmental" (haha) groups and fact-averse citizens all look like Gomer Pyle. Maine: The Laughing Stock Suckers of the North.

It's unfathomable to me that towns or counties think it's a great idea to rebate mega-amounts of tax money to wind developers. Make them pay their way in this world, the rest of us have to. If you can't afford the taxes on a mansion then you buy a modest home. If your business won't generate enough revenue to pay it's taxes, then you don't start or don't continue for long. It's one thing to try to help out a floundering paper mill that employs a significant number of locals and brings outside money into an area. It's another to bend over for a wind corporation that brings nothing to the local economy after construction than tax money. Industrial wind brings little or nothing to local jobs or local infrastructure or a draw for other more beneficial development. Some people here in Clifton were deluded enough to think we'd all get free or low cost electricity cause the developer said "the electrons will stay local". True, a 25% increase in town valuation doesn't mean a 25% cut in local taxes because of increased state and county and school district shares of the tax increase. But all the tax money goes for supporting the services we all need, whether state or local. With a TIF, a lot of the money goes to line the pockets of the developers. Somebody tell me how that makes any sense. With tax credits and rebates and selling tax equity, that yellow brick road is paved in gold for the developers and in crap for the citizens. Not to mention how much goes to pay the lawyers to draw up the TIF and manage it. Wake up people!

Maybe they should look at how Somerset county fared with the Former First Wind, SunEdison, now whoever........... and their funds that were late and maybe still unpaid along with the other groups that were promised the world in $$$ treasures.
I believe Somerset traded for an $11 million promise, a loss of $43 million in Tax collections by full assessment based on the claimed invested value of the turbines, only to find that by state statute most of that money to be received is required to go mostly back to the corporation in the way of maintaining access for the corporation.
This may be another Lose (Franklin) / Win (Corporation) situation...... A wolf in sheep's clothing.
