First Wind is Throwing A Party!!!

Let's Be a Spoiler!!!

WHAT:  Ribbon Cutting ceremony for First Wind's Rollins Project

WHEN:  Wednesday, July 20, 2011 likely at 11:00 AM

WHERE:  Operations Center on Lee Road in Lincoln, about 6 miles out of town on State Rte 6

WHO'S INVITED:  Various dignitaries, people with whom we have battled & LOTS & LOTS of MEDIA

WHO'S NOT INVITED:  YOU, THE WIND WARRIOR.  YOU, THE SPEAKER OF TRUTH ABOUT WIND

SO, WE INVITE OURSELVES TO SPEAK THE TRUTH

TO THE MEDIA THAT FIRST WIND GATHERS IN LINCOLN!!!

Rollins Project turbines above Upper Pond. with iconic Mt. Katahdin in the distance.  Rally in Lincoln to alert the media that the wind industry will surround Baxter Park, the Downeast Grand Lakes, and line the length of the Western Maine Mountains with turbines bigger than these!

Folks, although it may seem like this is First Wind celebrating another success, we know it is a farce to build a sprawling wind project where there is no wind.  Going operational here is truly not about producing "clean electricity".  First Wind will celebrate getting 30% of a $130 million project as a cash gift from the US Taxpayer;  First Wind will celebrate taking REC's to the market based on 60MW "nameplate" capacity rather than actual output that, at best, might be 25% of that.  First Wind will brag about tons of carbon being saved---yada, yada, yada, when we know better.   These turbines will never pay for themselves without massive subsidies and mandates.  These turbine's carbon footprint will never be offset in their 15 years life cycle, that the carbon produced in manufacturing the components, transporting nacelles from China, blades from Brazil, tower steel from South Korea, and the daily spewing of diesel pollutants from dozens of pieces of heavy construction equipment is enormous.  Plus, 7 miles of ridges have been scalped, blasted, and leveled, losing the carbon sequestration of a thousand acres of forest.  Wildlife habitat is fragmented, scenic beauty is destroyed, property value will plummet, and hundreds of residents will be affected when the turbines spin.

We must speak this truth to the Media that First Wind will gather and tell them why we cannot have 50 more Rollins Projects with even bigger turbines.  We have articulate people who will be there.  We need to have as large a gathering of supporters as possible to show the media that we are not as we are depicted by the wind industry, who call us a "small vocal minority."  Please come and stand up with us!  Come from all over and bring signs to express yourself and be vocal!!!

This is a photo of turbines at Rollins.  It could just as easily be Mars Hill, Stetson, or Kibby.

Record Hill and Spruce Mt. have started construction---with bigger turbines

We know what may be next:  Saddleback in Carthage, Bull Hill near Acadia, Oakfield, Bowers/Kossuth at the edge of the Downeast Grand Lakes, and the Highland Mts---all in some stage of application process.

There are the small "Community wind" projects in Freedom & Vinalhaven and a push for several more.

There are met towers up all over the place and the wind industry is working full tilt!

If we don't speak out, we don't ever stop it!

If we don't gain access to the media to speak the truth, the public will support

the destruction of Maine's mountains and rural areas for the folly of wind.

FIRST WIND IS GIVING US THE GIFT OF GATHERING ALL THE MEDIA IN LINCOLN

COME TO LINCOLN TO SUPPORT SPEAKING THE TRUTH TO ALL THE MAINE MEDIA

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
