Mainers were sold a bill of goods when former Governor John Baldacci and a carefully selected task force pushed special treatment for wind developers

Since Maine’s wind energy act became law in 2008, the energy playing field has been tilted sharply in favor of wind developers and against the state’s citizens and the environment in which they live. Every effort to modify that law has been rebuffed by the Maine Legislature.

Dan Remain of Cushing wants to do something about it and has mounted a campaign for a citizens initiative that would repeal or amend sections of the law to level the playing field and restore citizens’ rights.

This opinion piece needs to be in every newspaper in the state along with an ad that specifies where people can go to sign the petition!

Where did you hear our country was free?

Apparently a free country now means free to pillage.

These are the laws that arise when the people aren't watching and the media aren't doing objective reporting. I did not write "investigative" reporting because I believe "investigative" should already be covered off by the word "reporting". There are of course other reasons, but a healthy free press would be a huge start.

Instead, we have a situation where the grossly pro-wind Maine Today Media (by both commission and omission), is owned by S.Donald Sussman who was the incubator of D.E. Shaw, longtime half owner of First Wind and First Wind spinoff Deepwater Wind.

Add to that the fact Sussman is married to a full 25% of Maine's congressional delegation in Washington (Rep. Chellie Pingree) , and we have an additional problem. Then with wind hustler Angus King represeting another 25% of this delegation, already half our "representatives" in Washington, DC are severely compromised. And in the latest piece of news this week, King lands a seat on the U.S. Senate's Energy Committee.

Have the Maine media even once reported on the fact that his son, Angus King III heads mergers & acquisitions for First Wind, the company most responsible for wind's proliferation in Maine? Please send me the link to such reporting if you've ever seen it. I haven't.

The entire country has been sold a bill goods. After these sections of the law are repealed then start with some new laws. Laws that eliminate gag orders when a crime has been committed (for example killing an endangered species), laws that make reporting protected species  killed by  industry mandatory with stiff non compliance penalties, and laws pertaining to industry for the production of fraudulent research/reports.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
