Maine's Wind Law (PL 661) is Illegal
Ever since people realized the ramifications of LD 2283 being rammed through the Legislature in the waning hours of its short session in 2008 under the guise of being an "emergency", many have believed this product of such a flawed and manipulated process was illegal. Even worse was its administrative process, which was being made up as DEP was considering applications for Rollins and Record Hill projects. Attempting to have a say about the proliferation of destructive industrial wind projects, citizens have been thwarted at every attempt by a heinous, un-civic process rigged to favor a special interest. The wind law specifically limits citizens' participation.
The link here is to an article written by Christine Metcalf, who won the landmark decision based on the UN's Aarhus Convention. It inspires me with a glimmer of hope that we may find a legal means to bring a halt to the assault on Maine by the wind industry and the complicity of the pandering legislators who enable it.
