Maine Audubon: Maine Bats Being Eliminated, Putting Humans at Risk

Let us see if we understand this correctly -- Maine Audubon acknowledges that bat colonies in Maine have been decimated and this has put human health at risk. Yet after suggesting in 2011 putting restrictions on industrial wind with regard to bat endangerment, in December 2013, Maine Audubon essentially green lighted industrial wind sprawl in Maine.

June 29, 2014

Susan Gallo, wildlife biologist with Maine Audubon, said the organization has conducted colony surveys over the past two summers... the results of the survey are grim. Nearly every survey participant from across the state reported seeing local bat populations not merely reduced, but eliminated. Probably 40 reports of colonies that historically had 50 or 100 or even 1,000 bats were all down to zero,” she said. “It was really bad news.”

"They consume massive amounts of mosquitoes and moths,” Gallo said. “And the more insects you have, the more vectors you have for diseases. We’re at risk as well.

Here's what Maine Audubon said exactly three years ago:

While critical bat habitat would be given high priority for conservation if the bats become protected under the Endangered Species Act, the federal government might also choose to put new restrictions on wind turbine operation, said Gallo.

Yet last December, Gallo essentially gave the wind industry a green light to blanket Maine with industrial wind turbines:

On Wednesday night, Maine Audubon released its 34-page report on wind energy’s potential conflict with the state’s wildlife, and found that — for the most part — it doesn’t.

Left leaning? More like corporatist excuse my spelling..anyway...the reason I posted it is to show  the newer line of propaganda .

Martha, the Dailykos is a hard left leaning George Soros publication that does not accept comments that don't agree with their propaganda.  Besides, they are all about green energy, whether it is wothwhile or not.  They refuse to read the real facts and just spew their uninformed information.  For supposedly very smart people, they show little knowledge of facts.

"90% of the alveoli and airways are filled with edema".

It seems like at Maine Audubon the saying is "Lies, Damned Lies and AlveoLies".

DOes This Mean that MAINE AUDUBON ACKNOWLEDGES an ERROR on their Part and Does it Mean that MAINE AUDUBON Is going to MODIFY Or REVERSE its Stand on the ENVIRONMENTAL/ECO-LOGICAL /Wildlife DAMAGE done to this State and NEW -England as a whole? Does That Mean that they WILL NOT Take any support Donations from Wind Power Companys??- I'll bet that it doesn't and they don't!! I have decided three Years Ago to NOT EVER be a Member of this ORGANIZATION ever again!! JOHN James AUDUBON would be ashamed at the very least!!

New wind turbines generate back the energy it took to make them in just 6 months say New Study

Comments are pitiful on this post. I would rebut but got banned a long time ago.

I live across the lake from the Stetson Project, at least three miles from the turbines, and the bat houses I have had up for years are empty the last three years.  This is nothing we have not already known since the turbines with their flashing red lights went up in 2010.  Martha is right, the mosquitos and flies are there all day now, and the incidence of heartworm and other bug bourne diseases is up.  My Mosquito Magnet fills three times as fast as it used to.

This annihilation of a species, especially one that is so beneficial to our health and well being, far outweighs the miniscule saving of greenhouse gas emissions and saving of fossil fuels that wind turbines oprovide.  This is another lie that has been perpetrated on the population of Maine and the UT's  about how safe these monstrosities really are.  Vote NO on Tuesday!!!!

Everyone should contact the "so called" Maine environmental groups and let them know that they are on the wrong side of history!

Bad bad year for flies and mosquitoes right at Stetson Mt wind farm. Usually they do not come out early in the day. Now they come out at the first hint of light and bite all day. Was concerned this would happen.

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
