Jeb Bush: Federal wind tax credit should be renewed

Jeb Bush said that a federal program promoting wind energy production, which recently expired, has worked and should be renewed for at least a few more years

Enron and Wind Energy
Enron bought Zond Wind Energy and around 1990 persuaded California to allow them to package the "environmental attributes" of wind turbines as commodities separate from the actual energy produced.[citation needed] They are now called "green tags" or "renewable energy certificates."[citation needed] In addition, Enron worked with Texas governor George W. Bush to ensure the continuation of a "production tax credit" for wind energy.[6] After Enron's collapse, General Electric bought Enron's wind division.

Stupidity as  related to energy policy has certainly  been bipartisan .

Ending  the PTC should be a a non-partisan demand of the american citizen!

The CEO of enron  was the guy George Bush,  the George Bush who lost the popular vote to Al Gore often referred to as Kenny boy.   When digging into who is behind alternate energy programs you don't have to dig far to find an oil man.   Why?    The obvious reason is they have been behind this fiasco from the beginning.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZR0UKxNPh8

Republicans and ultra progressives both agree on giving enormous subsidies to  capitalists selling an inefficient, unreliable and costly form of energy . !!!!!

How can we the people fight for our rights and justice when nobody represents us. ?

Jeb was speaking to Iowa where they have enough industrial ag land and low enough population/electricity demand to lead in percent wind generation so of course the PTC is what they want to hear; ditto corn-ethanol fuel that both Jeb and NJ's Christie support. But the recap on Enron reminds us that brother Texas Gov. Bush invented the RPS, and that it was unscrupulous market manipulation by Houston-based Enron (not just wind) that led to California's energy woes. Texas leads the nation in wind resource and capacity, as well as coal imports.
But one wonders whether Jeb is also influenced by NextEra (aka Florida Light & Power) and the mileage that they have gotten from the PTC, enabling them to 'modernize' and expand Everglades-threatening gas-fired electric generation. Florida does not have wind resource, and FLP's feeble attempts to erect turbines have been slammed by conservationist organizations, espec. American Bird Conservancy.

But at least these speeches in Iowa should be taking the partisan out of outrage. In Iowa, one suspects that candidates would argue for the empty, unhealthful high-fructose corn syrup too, as a source of 'energy'. Let's see what tune they sing in NH. Let's also praise Christie for taking New Jersey out of RGGI.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
