Fishing groups seek Atlantic wind farm delay

A dozen private companies

are set to bid on the lease sale

of a 127-sq. mile area off of the coast of N.Y. and N.J.

MINEOLA, N.Y. — Commercial fishing companies, trade groups and three fishing-based municipalities are seeking to delay the lease sale of an Atlantic Ocean site between New York and New Jersey that federal officials envision as the home of a massive offshore wind energy project.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of a 45-page motion ahead of its filing Thursday in federal court in Washington, D.C. It seeks a temporary restraining order halting the Dec. 15 lease sale. Those seeking a delay include groups representing scallop and squid fishermen, the Long Island Commercial Fishing Association and the city of New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Not holding them accountable while in office to more than just the vote is something they have gone outside the constitution and given themselves immunity (A long time back, but still wrong)

Some run to get elected to see how much they can Gain, if not for themselves their districts. This is not the intent of Our style of government. Ours is to protect this nation, its peoples, its religions, its ability to live peacefully within our boundaries.  The military oath, states protect from all enemies both foreign and domestic......   Corporations can be (not all) that Domestic enemy, along with violent groups such as the KKK and now the BLM (to bad they resorted to violence but a mix of radicals)

The government Holds in Trust for us our natural resources. But, they've broken this Trust and they continue to Rape our resources with their partners in industry. The government is in theory functions to protect the interest of citizens. Government cannot adequately serve two masters. So we have the unholy alliance, industry in bed with a government that's corrupt. Even the Director of the very same agency of government that has purview over the offshore wind rush admits his agency has "violated the Public Trust". We are complicit when our voices are silent. We allow Public Trust to Raped by collusion between government and industry that provides industry favorable science. Collusion is a synonym for conspiracy, which is on its face is illegal. It boils down to GRAFT and GREED as the drivers of the sWINDle.

Historically we have long called for draining the SWAMP....... Promises said but not kept, once they were told "This is how it works here" and any new hope was quashed.  Maybe, just Maybe, a person with sufficient wealth, obliged to no status quo political society of Corporate Elitists may have a stab at the bottom of the swamp and drain it partially..... A step forward, for We the People, believers in law and our democracy to ever change those laws per the need of the people and applied against those forced, for the people.

"Our"Government is NOT suppose to be (and it is constitutionally illegal) a partnership with Industry nor elevate or empower persons within it........ Our Government is to serve to PROTECT its people and serve the Common Good. Not to serve by popular thoughts of the day, but by sound laws that benefit and build a stronger Republic to protect our Democracy.

Though there is a problem with the industrialized rapid advancement of progress, Idealistic resolutions such as Green Energy, Wind and Solar, are impractical to impossible for the goals set forth. We are at a critical Mass. One that is about to say, every person for themselves, lest we live forever foraging for that last scrap of food to survive. When you (people in general) take less, we all have more for tomorrow.

In moderation, Wind, solar, fossil fuels all have their places. Sources (locations) should be balanced to the point of generation point of need. That in itself will FORCE conservation. Those in the huddled masses of cities, maybe the cities that never sleep should conserve, by turning the lights out and a reasonable hour.

They are not Plundering that of which you write, they are set on Raping those resources. Northern New England is always prone to being Raped of resources....... we after all are a kinder gentler people. :) (my opinion of native locals)

Soros......... let those who follow, feel his misery........ a lonely person of hate.

I do think it's past time we DRAIN THE SWAMP, Eric.  Government is in partnership with industry working against our interests as was the case with ENRON.  Since ENRON was never addressed by FERC after the worst corporate fraud case in American history, the Snakes have multiplied and are more venomous.  They're plundering mountains, oceans, land and food sources, ancients' burial grounds, Sacred Land, rate and taxpayers as well as homeowners entitled to quiet enjoyment of their property.  And, we're paying them to destroy our resources, jobs, wildlife and wilderness, historic values, NHLs, high value archeological sites, and fishing grounds.

BTW  I love fish, too, but not Frankenfish.  Soros likes offshore wind because he wants us to eat only farmed fish...dirty fish with lice cause they can't swim, and they're loaded with antibiotics and GMOs.  Offshore wind and fish farms are the feds plan and George's plan as he plans to supply feed for farmed fish, and to feed us dirty farmed fish.

Comment by Eric A. Tuttle on December 8, 2016 at 9:32pm

Does it not seem reasonable to assume that all of the Snakes of Enron that escaped liability with their plundered wealth, leaving employees with the 10¢ on the dollar for their retirement (or less), conceived in corruption of all energy sectors would not return under the guise of Green Energy ? A market that was in its infancy and not yet corrupted. One that has been corrupted not only by the corporate types, but by the elitist democrats that as research is unveiling are by majority the owners or highest investors of those same corporations. Look at the wealthiest persons of America and political aspirations. Control of the people, either by wage or by vote....... Control is Control. Though seemingly at different ends of the spectrum this is what our constitution was designed to combat. Elitists that would be Royal, and Corporations that would be Land Barons.  Though the words exist, for We the People, we were talked into over 2 centuries, to trust our government always. We got lazy and did not participate in the  DEMANDING of answers of their actions.

From the bottom up, person by person, community by community  we must ask....... become active and participate, but MOST importantly BECOME INFORMED. Demand the TRUTH premised in facts learned through experience and science.

 BTW I love Fish.

'Offshore Wind Turbine Maintenance Cost Fiasco: „100 Times More Expensive Than A New Turbine Itself“!'

By P Gosselin on 2. Februar 2016

"A press release by Germany’s Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft reports how offshore North and Baltic Sea wind turbines need to be in operation for 25 years before they become profitable, but that they are prone to shortened lifespans due to rust from the harsh sea environment.

As a result the wind turbine installations need extra and very costly maintenance to ensure that they survive long enough. It’s turning out to be an insurmountable challenge..."

'Unreliable Power: Major Technical Failure Sidelines Another Offshore Wind Park…Adding To Exploding Costs'

"I’ve reported earlier on Germany’s BARD 1 offshore engineering fiasco, where technical problems continue plaguing the wind park and has yet to deliver power on shore to reach markets. Even today the
situation there remains unclear.

Moreover, just days I ago I reported how an expert institute confirmed that offshore wind park installations are highly vulnerable to the harsh sea conditions and plagued by stratospheric maintenance costs.

Well there is another major wind park that is now struggling with major
technical problems and thus will not be able to deliver power until at
least (optimistically) April. The giant offshore Riffgat wind park
hasn’t delivered power since November of last year, so reports NDR German public broadcasting here..."

Spiegel: Germany’s Large-Scale Offshore Windpark Dream Morphs Into An Engineering And Cost Nightmare

By P Gosselin on 11. September 2014

(my summary with quotes)

Germany’s flagship BARD Offshore I is a 400MW wind project intended to supply the energy needs of 400,000 households. But Bard Offshore 1 remains out of operation according to industry source Offshore Wind Biz (June 2014) citing: “frequent technical problems with the converter
substation,” “a smoldering fire,” “failure of the system,” “five
unplanned outages since the beginning of 2014” and “transmission
problems.”

WindPowerOffshore (September 19, 2014) reports the:

"Danish company Vattenfall is going to dismantle the Yttre Stengrund in Swedish waters after only 13 years of operation. “Only one in (5) turbines is currently operational.”

Wall Street Journal [1/08/14]:

“Siemens, the world’s largest manufacturer of offshore wind turbines, and its partners concede they underestimated the challenges behind offshore wind. The financial fallout from these challenges was highlighted on Thursday, when Siemens said it booked €128 million ($171 million) in new charges related to connecting offshore wind farms to the power grid. It blamed unexpectedly high costs for shipping, installing and starting up grid components.”

Wonder if Portland Press Herald will allow this past Mr. Moderator...

It is correct to say that the U.S. Office of Inspector General identified a "culture of ethical failure" exists at MMS now called BOEM.  And, that BOEM is entertaining former ENRON execs' bids for our finite and precious resource area, the ocean.

Former ENRON execs dominate the offshore wind market-

ENRON Energy Services Chris Wissemann is the Founder of DeepWater Wind, Fishermen’s Energy Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Freshwater Wind. Wissermann is Chief Operating Officer of Winergy Power, LLC., and past President of Garden State Offshore Energy. Wissermann spearheaded legislation to create long term power purchase agreements for DeepWater Wind he founded.
http://www.fishermensenergy.com/leadership.php

DeepWater Wind Board Member Brian Redmond is Founder of Paragon Energy Holdings, LLC; former President of Houston Pipe Line Company and President of Louisiana Resource Company, Managing Director of ENRON, and Executive Director of UBS Warburg Energy.

APEX EVP of business development Steve Vavrik is also listed as Apex Clean Energy, Inc., Chief Commercial Officer. Vavrik was VP of First Wind, and Vice President of Risk Management for UPC in 2006 that changed its name to First Wind in 2008. Vavrik was with ENRON in London in a project development and gas trading capacity. His role at ENRON included trading natural gas forward contracts and negotiating structured power deals.

It's no surprise, Eric, that the feds either didn't do the math or thought you wouldn't do the math.  And, they were wrong.  Ill conceived at best this wind mess, but absolutely insane to those paying attention and funding multi-millions of dollars for thousands of mistakes.

And, it's no surprise (to me) that Portland Press Herald censored my comment copied and pasted below  beginning with, "There's a reprieve for the fishermen..."

Using government agency figures The renewable energy objectives is an IMPOSSIBLITY on land, and I highly doubt that off shore wind could even aid in meeting that goal. http://www.windtaskforce.org/profiles/blogs/national-power-loss

Based on the total power use reported for 2013 the following Math proves this as an impossible dream.

831,066,666 3Mwh turbines to reach 50% Green energy via Wind by 2025

At 2 acres / Mwh (6 acres per turbine replacement) for solar.

9,972,800,000 Acres.

The land area of the lower 48 states is approximately 1.9 billion acres.

And yes Government is holding all the marbles on fishing rights, which is evident when Japanese fishing vessles (processing factories) sit off shore between Maine and Canada and sometimes in Canadian waters off Nova Scotia actively processing trawler catches that are returned to that ship.

Even as Trump (prior to assuming office) tries to assert his influence into corporate businesses, it is NOT the function of government to participate. This largely started with the Great Depression and the Oklahoma Dust Bowl days, with social assistance and then entrenched itself into business when WWII created a need for Government to organize the rapid buildup of the industrial sector to support the war and the troops. This has never really ended. Subsidies for Corporations is akin to Welfare, while they work.  People can not do that, nor can retirees without a penalty of paybacks. Corporations never Payback.

If China can build floating Military Platform complexes out to sea, beyond the horizon So should Wind though there still remains a disruption of marine life with the noise and harmonics created. As we know with whales and other species they use ultra sonic and sub sonic ranges for communications. Sound in Water travels much faster than sound in Air and (though I could be wrong) does not dissipate in the same way.

We are reaching critical mass between land occupation and energy use. We need to conserve, or decide whether to eat or go to bed when it gets dark. (Bye-Bye electronic toys from china. Maybe some daylight reading ? )

That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
