PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CITIZENS TASK FORCE  ON WIND POWER

Public Advocate Eric Bryant moves for dismissal with prejudice in the matter of petitioners Bangor Hydro Electric and Maine Public Service

The CTFWP is applauding the motion filed by the Public Advocate Eric Bryant to recommend to the Commission dismissal of the case  and sanctions against the petitioners, due to numerous violations of the Commission's Rules of Procedure.

"We are pleased that the Public Advocate recognizes that the petitioners' attempts to circumvent procedures intended to insure the integrity of the process cannot be tolerated and undermines public confidence in the PUC," said Monique Aniel, co-chair of the Citizens Task Force on Wind Power.

"This is not the first time First Wind has tried to change the deal at the last minute when confronted with the possibility of an adverse regulatory decision.  Over the objections of many interested parties, LURC recently granted First Wind 90 days to provide an argument to the commissioners as to why they should be allowed to withdraw their Bowers wind project application and revise it - even though, as in this case,  the record was closed and staff had recommended denial of the application", said  Steve Thurston, co chair of the CTFWP.

If the press does its job, and so far it has fallen far, far short of objective coverage of back room wind industry shenanigans, this will get some play in our newspapers.  "Strong backs, weak minds.  Mainers will be easy pickin's."  So think the industrial wind developers as they rub their greedy hands together.

Wrong.  Wrong.  Wrong.

All of the information I have been reading over the last 5 years has been summed-up with the Public Advocates response, the summary By Dr, Aniel and the lengthy minutes of the hearing with the results put forth in the denial. These First Wind people cannot be trusted and will DO ANYTHING TO PREVAIL. These people have no concern for Maine or its people, as soon as they are finished they will move on to destroy more areas. As you may be aware there is a stretch of Route 11 between Patton, Maine and Ashland Miane that is classified as one of the states most scenic roads. On the south end it is near Kathadin and Mt Chase,  as it heads north the scenic route continues to expand. I know that First Wind has requested permission the survey this area to install a myriad of turbines the full length of Route 11. The approval of the Oakfield project after the 700 signature petition was presented to the DEP and the multitude of letters sent to the DEP and the Army Corp. of Engineers were totally ignored. and why?  Where will it all end, hopefully not the way they, First Wind, are planning. As all will see in reading the documents encased in the recent mail from the Long Islander, these people truly believe Maine is full of uneducated individuals and the can fool most of the people most of the time. I can go on with more of the things that I personally have been affected by such as the damage done to my property by the FW group who entered the property illegally and dug test holes and damaged my woodland roads, they were foolish enough to leave behind the test hole markers that match to their site maps. I hope enough people in Maine will stand up to these people with the true facts not just the propaganda that FW and their affiliates are spreading in Maine and elsewhere.. As I have said many times; First Wind was forced to sign a code of ethics in the state of New York, by N.Y.'s Attorney General and I have question if by coming to Maine, First Wind was looking for easy pickings. I do not see that they have learned any lessons from their experience in New York and the evidence is clear that they have not changed their business practices. The only thing First Wind has changed is the State they are doing business. Some might consider Maine back woods, but we have kept up with the times and know a scam and poor ethics when we see it. No one should consider themselves exceptional from the laws of the land. First Winds actions have been brazen and disrespectful to the laws of Maine.

And here's why all of the NRCM CO2 claims now need to be revisited before one single more spot gets destroyed in Maine. Rethinking NRCM

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
