First Evidence That Offshore Wind Farms Are Changing the Oceans

Surprise! Surprise!  There is evidence that offshore wind farms will be changing the ocean. We already know it is causing whale communication problems and strandings.

The interesting part of this article comes in the very first paragraph; "Offshore wind farms are becoming increasingly common in our oceans. In Europe, the goal is for them to supply over 4 percent of the continent’s electricity by 2030.  And that’s triggering a wind power boom—the amount of electricity they generate is expected to increase 40-fold by 2030."

Did you get that? 4%, that's all they expect wind power to generate for the outrageous expense of destroying the North Sea. The other comment that is telling is that they will have to curtail fishing in the parts of the North Sea where they build these things because there is too much danger in digging up the cables and damaging the towers. How many centuries have fishermen in Great Britain and France been plying the waters for food for their people. At least it will create wind jobs.  Maybe those fishermen, guys who have been going to sea their whole lives, will become turbine repair men.

Things just keep getting more and more ridiculous.

[8th grade science.] Only 56% of the suns energy ever hits the earth. If all were converted to wind energy, only 59% of that could be captured which = 33% of all the suns energy.

So, given they only operate on average 25% of the time, that would result in 8.26% assuming no failures. Maine has a Poor Wind production capacity, along with a low Solar ability. However Maine does possess above average Hydro and Geothermal capacity. Review PDF download The Sun produces 179 Pwh of energy per day for the Earth, of which 41% is reflected back into the atmosphere or space leaving 105.61 Pwh to be absorbed by the oceans, soil or plant life. [63.366 going to the Oceans leaving 42.244 for the remaining earth. ] Assuming we captured at an impossible level of 25% efficiency (current efficiency average stands at 7%) , with 100% coverage of all land mass. (No buildings or farms allowed) we would only gather 10.561 Pwh. Currently the Civilization uses 20,900 (20.9 PWh)  Renewables from land based systems fall far short, and with the oceans Fully covered we could only achieve 26.4025 Pwh even if at a greater 41% efficiency of capture.

This article was posted on Face Book, so I added this comment:
"A well known yet suppressed fact about industrial wind turbines is the Low Frequency sound waves they produce. LF is heavily regulated by OSHA, yet the wind industry is let off the hook on the deleterious effects of LF. Lobsters in the larval stage float freely near the surface of the ocean until they develop large enough to sink to the ocean floor. Before we go populating the Gulf of Maine with hundreds, if not thousands, of wind turbines, we must be certain there will be no impact on lobster larvae from LF."

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
