Ever wondered what to say when the proponents of wind power in Maine evoke the need to reduce CO2 emissions ?

Read the following graph  and then try to figure out  why  John Baldacci wanted to make Maine a LEADER in wind power development in 2008.

The only states beating Maine were the tiny ones and Idaho and S.Dakota. Interesting. I think I will look up the population of ID and SD and compare. The list is interesting. Thanks for posting, Monique.

We have to keep plugging away and hope that soon the legislature will listen or at least question the wild wind claims.

When folks realize they've been evangelized by snake-oil salesmen, they'll get mad, and be more vocal, Monique.  Especially when they figure out Big Wind has destroyed our beautiful carbon-sink, forested lands and habitat, with actual value, for zero benefits.  The adverse impacts delivered by wind are actual, yet benefits are alleged by carpet-baggers--never realized by citizens.

It's all about the subsidies.  Without these, there would be no visible destruction to ME's wilderness.  And there would be no damage to views that are ME's actual commodity with benefits that can be counted in tourism revenues $.

I'm a ME tourist who will avoid areas where wind turbines ruin the views.

As a Mass resident, I'm furious about the former Gov Patrick appointment as "Advisor" on green policy, of Boston-based First Wind CEO Gaynor (SunEdison VP).  UPC First Wind's history of business practices, and this wind developer's influence over green policies that favor wind energy on and offshore.  Patrick's appointment of Gaynor under the Global Warming Solutions Act was to advise the MA Energy Sec. on policy that favors Gaynor's bottom-line, wind and solar.  And this appointment was subsequent to July 15, 2008 when First Wind was, "served with a civil subpoena by the NewYork State Attorney General seeking documents to substantiate First Wind’s alleged improper benefits to public officials. First Wind is under criminal investigation by NYS Attorney General Andrew Cuomo for allegations of improper dealings with public officials and anti-competitive practices."

I agree with you.  We have to be more tenacious than Big Wind to preserve rights, liberties, freedoms, our landscape and habitat and our communities they divide.  As they will pick our pockets to the tune of billions, only if we allow them to.  If history repeats, they'll leave behind rusting and leaking monstrosities as testimony to our tolerance, or ignorance, and their greed.

Testimony about UPC First Wind business practices, their wind project noise issues, questionable ties to organized crime, is offered orally at Mass DPU Public Hearing, and supported in this State of Mass document.  It's mind boggling to me that such nefarious activity is tolerated let alone  showered with our money.

But of course Barbara ....now if only the folks would understand that and write to their representatives with outrage.

I'll go with greed and graft as the reason.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
