It's time Mainers spoke up about this.  CMP ratepayers should be up in arms.

Just as was the case with the $2.4 BILLION MPRP, this new transmission upgrade is only necessary due to the current plans to build mile upon mile of wind turbine facilities on the mountains of this state.  Maine already exports a large percentage of the electricity we generate--this highly impactful generation and distribution plan is destructive, costly and unnecessary.  A few individuals will get rich from the vast federal, state and local hand-outs; but the vast majority of Mainers will simply see our monthly electric bills rise once more.  How many more of these projects are in the works for the years to come?

I've known CMP was foreign-owned, of course--but I noticed something the other day that brought it home to me.  The check I was sending to pay my CMP bill was being sent to NEW JERSEY.  I assume that means payment processing isn't even being done in Augusta, anymore? This is the same company which wants to install smart meters and lay off 150+ Maine men and women who are our meter readers.  CMP is not a Maine company, and its owners don't care about the state or its inhabitants.   It is owned by Iberdrola of Spain... also the biggest operator of wind facilities in the WORLD.  Of course, whatever they want will come to pass.  They are accustomed to wielding huge power on many continents.  They believe that if they want to build massive wind facilities in Maine, they'll get permitted.  They believe if they need additional transmission, we'll pay for it.  So far, our state regulatory agencies have been wonderfully subservient and emenable to whatever the corporate giant has demanded.

We're being taken advantage of, and it has to stop.  It will only stop if good people stand up and say 'NO!'  And that needs to happen now.  I'm not afraid of this intruder.  Iberdrola Renewables is unwelcome, here.  The people of Concord and Lexington are standing together and have overwhelmingly said 'NO!' to Iberdrola's plans to build a wind facility in our communities.

We've asked Iberdrola to respect our will and our voices.  We want them to abandon their plans for this corner of Somerset County.  I hope other Mainers will stand with us.

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
