Bowers Mt. Project Hearing June 27 & 28 in Lincoln---Please Come and Help Defeat First Wind!!!

The Grand Lakes of Downeast Maine are a National Treasure!
They are Under Assault from First Wind and
We NEED YOU to Help!

WHAT:  The LURC hearings on the Bowers/Kossuth wind project
WHEN:  Monday, June 27 & Tuesday, June 28;  PUBLIC COMMENT times start at 6 PM both days
Tuesday during the day is sworn testimony by developers & intervenors as well as a Press
Conference at 11 am at the gazebo in downtown Lincoln overlooking the Rollins Project turbines
WHERE:  Lincoln, Maine at the Ella P. Burr School on Military Road (US Rt. 2) just outside of downtown
 Bowers Mountain

The Grand Lakes of Downeast Maine are located just east of Lincoln, where First Wind is putting the finishing touches on the Rollins Wind Project.  These are 40 turbines above the Lincoln Lakes, each 389 feet tall.  The proposed Bowers Mt/Kossuth Township project is much worse!  First Wind, as Champlain Wind, LLC., has been deceitful all throughout this process and after gaining approval to extend into the Kossuth Township non-expedited area, is now proposing seventeen 2.3MW turbines and ten 3.0MW turbines. These turbines stand 428' tall---much bigger and more intrusive than the Lincoln Lakes turbines.  And, sadly, destroying the Quality of Place of one of the least developed regions in the eastern US..

The Downeast Lakes Watershed is one of the largest undeveloped tracts of lakes in the United States.   The Downeast Lakes region includes some two dozen lakes, many of which are connected by navigable waterways. This watershed includes more Class 1A and 1B lakes than anywhere else in Maine.  But, for First Wind, this is just another part of its grand scheme, which started with Stetson I & II and now includes Rollins in Lincoln Lakes.  Unless this project for Bowers Mt. & Dill Ridge is stopped, First Wind will relentless encircle the Downeast Grand Lakes with turbines.  This world-reknowned sporting region with its pristine setting and incredible rare dark night sky, will be ruined forever, unless you help.

Please come to Lincoln and send LURC a message that we have had enough of the proliferation of industrial wind turbines in Maine.  Tell them to uphold the mission of LURC and take a stand for protection of the Downeast Lakes Region and stop this industrial intrusion!

YOU MUST HELP!!!  COME TO LINCOLN TO SUPPORT THE PARTNERSHIP FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE DOWNEAST LAKES WATERSHED---PPDLW.   HELP US PACK THE ELLA BURR SCHOOL GYM AND SEND A MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY TO LURC.  PLEASE COME TO THE MICROPHONE AND SPEAK OUT---WHETHER IT IS A FEW HUMBLE WORDS OR AN ELOQUENT SPEECH, YOU MUST SPEAK OUT!!!

Grand Lake Stream on West Grand Lake is the heart of the vast Downeast Grand Lakes Region
Imagine the distant ridges dominated by 438 foot tall wind turbines

Think Lincoln is too far away for an evening meeting?  No problem!!!  You will be in the heart of the lakes regions of northeastern Maine!!!  We have plenty of beds available at camps and homes to put up anybody who is willing to come to Lincoln to support us.  Think a mini-vacation with a crucially important purpose.  See deer, moose, eagles, osprey, listen to the loons---before they are all driven out by the wind turbines.

If you need a place to stay, contact Kevin, Gary, and Brad as noted above.  Your choice:  Junior Lake, Silver Lake, Long Pond, Caribou Pond---all free, just bring linens or a sleeping bad and your favorite pillow!

Help us avoid the magnificent Downeast Grand Lakes from becoming this heart-breaking scene, a portion of the Rollins Project in Lincoln Lakes:

SPECIAL FEATURE ADDED!!!

The photo above is appalling, yet it should be an iconic rallying point for those who care enough about our beautiful state to fight against the proliferation of industrial wind turbines.  Lincoln native an anti-wind activist Brad Blake will be leading a short, modreate hike into a section of the Rollins Wind Project in Lincoln.
Meet at the gazebo in downtown Lincoln on Monday, June 27 at 4 PM for this event.
We will be back in plenty of time to attend the Monday evening Public Comment session at the Ella Burr School.

On Monday, LURC will be doing a site visit at Bowers Mt.; the public can attend, but cannot ask questions or make comments---gag order rules!   Not so with Brad!  A free-wheeling and lively interaction, up close and personal with the Rollins turbines is guaranteed.  If you have never seen a wind power project up close, do not pass up this opportunity!!!  Meet Brad at the gazebo!!!

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/

Sign up today and lend your voice and presence to the steadily rising tide that will soon sweep the scourge of useless and wretched turbines from our beloved Maine countryside. For many of us, our little pieces of paradise have been hard won. Did the carpetbaggers think they could simply steal them from us?

We have the facts on our side. We have the truth on our side. All we need now is YOU.
