Transmission Projects - The Way Life Should Be ..... For Massachusetts

Updated: 1/24/16

This mammoth transmission project uses as rationale: "Reduce Maine’s consumption by at least 30 percent from 2007 levels of oil by 2030.....". One logical question would thus seem to be -- how can wind electricity projects reduce oil consumption if we do not use oil to make our present electricity supply?

The quoote on oil consumption can be seen on slide # 13 of the following presentation in pdf format.

  • Northeast Energy Link (NEL) - A newly proposed project called the Northeast Energy Link (NEL) would construct one 1100 MW DC circuit with DC converter stations. The line would be 230 miles long and transmit significant renewable energy into the New England market. In addition, it would lower supply costs in the New England market and attract renewable generation to the New England market while minimize environmental impacts and maintaining or enhance transmission system reliability. NEL would create a major corridor for transmission of Northern Maine and Canadian renewable energy sources.

For more information on this project, visit the Northeast Energy Link website

Clean Energy & Transmission - As previously announced in a press release dated July 7, 2014, Emera Maine and Central Maine Power (CMP) signed a memorandum of understanding for joint project development to improve links between southern New England and northern Maine.

The Northeast Energy Link would primarily serve wind farms to be built in Maine, as well as hydro, wind and other generation sources in Atlantic Canada.......

......It would transmit energy from wind farms in Maine to be built by First Wind Holdings. Last summer, Boston-based First Wind and Emera closed a $361 million deal to jointly own and operate wind projects in the Northeast......

............The line is being proposed to satisfy the need for renewable energy in New England, primarily in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Those states have aggressive laws to reduce their shares of electricity generated from oil, coal and natural gas, and increase capacity from wind, hydro, tidal and other regional sources, through policies known as renewable portfolio standards..................

Remember, everyone who is concerned about the health effects of living and working in the presence of wind turbines, the infra-sonic vibrations induce reproductive abnormalities; 1600+ mink stillbirths with deformities, the closure of a large garden center because of menstrual irregularities and miscarriages in women employees, both in Denmark, the loss of a late term fetus by a woman on Wolfe Island, Ontario, CA, yolk-less chicken eggs in south Australia, and eventually the hens just stopped laying eggs. Any government and industry that does these things must be replaced and banned.

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
