BDN: First Wind Pushing for 600' Tall Turbine Allowances

Two thoughts:

1. That's about 10% higher than the Washington Monument

2. Our # 1 industry, tourism, relies on people fleeing the views of…

Fudging the UMPI wind power numbers in Maine - but who's watching?

On a test score, the following sort of discrepancy could be the difference between failing a course or getting a good grade. But when it comes to electricity, i.e., the ratepayer's wallet, who cares?

PPH: The Ultimate Sustainable Campus Map

Excerpt:

UMPI’s wind turbine has not yet lived up to its projected potential of producing 700,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually.

Welch to retire early as head of Maine’s PUC

Because the term of another commissioner, David Littell, is up in March, Welch’s early departure means the next governor will appoint two of the three PUC commissioners.

Climate Movement Drops Mask, Admits Communist Agenda

The "climate change" "crisis" is now nothing but the latest justification for "total revolution" and getting rid of capitalism forever.

Below you will find irrefutable proof that communist ideologies, organizations and phraseologies have completely moved to the forefront of the "climate change" movement. (I was originally tempted to say that the communists, as they are wont to do, have merely "co-opted" environmentalism. But that would imply that the goal of global warming…

BDN - Bristol to vote on whether UMaine offshore wind project can connect to regional power grid in town

Maine regulators agree on safety of CMP’s ‘smart meters’

http://www.pressherald.com/2014/09/23/smart-meters/

When the supply can't be depended upon as it can with a source like natural gas, an alternate way to match up supply and demand is to control the demand. Enter the smart meter.

"A smart grid would allow the…

Around Maine, green is BMOC: Big mandate on campus

Excerpts:

Bowdoin College was putting in a major new solar complex, designed to generate about 8 percent of the campus’ annual electricity needs.

What surprised us were the efforts being made in just about every corner of the state as institutions of higher education, both public and private, gear up for a future where oil is scarce, the stresses of global warming increase and Mainers have to become more…

The Crumbling Climate-Change Consensus

The Crumbling Climate-Change Consensus

But they certainly didn’t act like a movement that was winning. There was a tone of fatalism in the comments of many with whom I spoke; they despair that the kind of radical change they advocate probably won’t result from the normal democratic process. It’s no…

UMPI windmill least important

UMPI windmill might work better if it were 150-200 ft taller. It was built in a land depression. The most important issue today is what the Maine Supreme Court will say about the Emera First Wind appeal which flies in the face of legislative intent. Why was legislation passed which forced our public utilities to split their generating from their distribution assets and now that those utilities are no longer ours, the PUC will allow Emera to acquire a financial interest in First Wind, enabling…

Shamelessly in the tank for Michaud, shilling for the waste that is wind

Excerpts:

This is an example of what could happen in this country, especially in New England, which has no indigenous fossil fuels but is rich in the wind, sun, rivers and tides that could produce emission-free electricity long into the future, with no fuel costs.

Throughout his term, Gov. LePage has focused on lowering energy costs by chasing the mirage of low-cost hydropower from Quebec and building a pipeline from the Pennsylvania…

Wind Money - Why are so many Texans writing checks in Maine’s governor race?

EXCERPT:

Adams, whose First Wind title is Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, made news when it came to light that he had taken an equity interest in First Wind while still serving as Chair of the Maine Public Utilities Commission. BDN - Hancock County approves latest financial agreements with First Wind

The project is expected to generate $11 million in property tax revenue for Hancock County over the 30-year term of the agreement — $5.82 million of which will end up in county coffers, and Hancock Wind will keep roughly $5.12 million. The wind developer will retain 70 percent of its annual tax payments to the county for 20 years, with the county getting the remaining 30 percent. But for each of the final 10 years of the agreement, the county would keep 100 percent of the project tax…

So what did Cutler and Michaud say about energy this morning?

Unfortunately, I don't believe the state's major newspapers have spent any ink on the content of what candidates Cutler and Michaud had to say at E2Tech about energy this morning in Portland, instead placing all focus on the Governor's decision to withdraw from the event.

Did Cutler and Michaud disagree at all about wind power or are they each equally beholden to the wind industry?…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/

Hannah Pingree on the Maine expedited wind law

Hannah Pingree - Director of Maine's Office of Innovation and the Future
