Think Snow? -- No, THANK SNOW!!! -- Greenland Ridge Purchased

When I read this extraordinary and motivating news, I was reminded of the plaque in Island Falls commemorating Teddy Roosevelt's visits to the lakes there, also under threat from the wind industry:

Stranger, rest here and consider what one man, having faith in the right and love for his fellow man was able to do for his country."…

Maine DEP asks First Wind to prove financial capacity (PPH)

First Wind is going to INVEST a billion in Maine? Hardly.

First Wind is going to invest a billion in themselves so that they can grab the Production Tax Credit, a lavishly generous subsidy that is the largest of all the "subsidy extenders" draining the national treasury. This will do nothing positive for Maine but will create many large negative impacts to Mainers' health, Maine's environment,…

“When it comes to alternative energy, Gov. LePage continues to stand in the way of progress,” Michaud said. “His war on the wind industry is hurting our state. Major investments that would have created jobs for Mainers have been chased away. It’s wrong.”

And to think Senator Troy Jackson voted against citizen rights on LD 616

Senator Troy Jackson voted against citizen rights on LD 616.

See attached.Roll_Calls_March_2014.xlsx

But although he was happy to vote citizens down as such, he had no problem putting forth a bill that would allow a single constituent of his to clear 200' of shoreline without consequence.

A kudos to the Maine Center for Public Interest…

Maine Perspective on Wind and Hydro Shared in Boston

Maine Perspective Shared in Boston before the Massachussetts Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities & Energy

EXCERPT:

Another note on CO2: In New England, only 17% of our CO2 emissions comes from the electricity generation sector. More than double (38%) comes from the transportation sector. In Maine the numbers are 14% from electricity and 46% from transportation. Yet the lion’s share of our collective climate reform efforts are…

BDN - Dems and a Handful of Republicans Strip Maine Citizens of Their Rights

This is the same bill that the House overwhelmingly passed just three days ago.

Two bills to give Unorganized Territory more say in wind deals rejected by Senate

EXCERPTS:

The first bill rejected by the Senate — LD 1323, sponsored by Rep. Teresea Hayes, D-Buckfield — would have reinstituted the zoning process that was in effect before the Wind Act was passed.

A SAD DAY FOR CITIZENS' RIGHTS IN MAINE

TODAY THE MAINE SENATE VOTED TO KILL LD 616.  THIS BILL WOULD HAVE SIMPLY RESTORED, TO RESIDENTS OF UNORGANIZED TERRITORIES WITHIN THE EXPEDITED WIND PERMITTING AREA,   RIGHTS ENJOYED BY 99% OF MAINE CITIZENS TO EXERCISE LOCAL CONTROL OVER LAND USES PERMITTED IN THEIR TOWNS.  IT HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY CLEAR THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE MAINE SENATE ACTS AT THE PLEASURE OF THE WIND INDUSTRY, NOT IN THE INTERESTS OF THE RIGHTS OF MAINE'S CITIZENS.  THANKS TO THOSE SENATORS VOTING IN THE MINORITY…

Maine Center For Public Interest Reporting – Three Part Series: A CRITICAL LOOK AT MAINE’S WIND ACT

******** IF LINKS BELOW DON'T WORK, GOOGLE THEM*********

(excerpts) From Part 1 – On Maine’s Wind Law “Once the committee passed the wind energy bill on to the full House and Senate, lawmakers there didn’t even debate it. They passed it unanimously and with no discussion. House Majority Leader Hannah Pingree, a Democrat from North Haven, says legislators probably didn’t know how many turbines would be constructed in Maine if the law’s goals were met." . – Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, August 2010 https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-power-bandwagon-hits-bumps-in-the-road-3/From Part 2 – On Wind and Oil Yet using wind energy doesn’t lower dependence on imported foreign oil. That’s because the majority of imported oil in Maine is used for heating and transportation. And switching our dependence from foreign oil to Maine-produced electricity isn’t likely to happen very soon, says Bartlett. “Right now, people can’t switch to electric cars and heating – if they did, we’d be in trouble.” So was one of the fundamental premises of the task force false, or at least misleading?" https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/wind-swept-task-force-set-the-rules/From Part 3 – On Wind-Required New Transmission Lines Finally, the building of enormous, high-voltage transmission lines that the regional electricity system operator says are required to move substantial amounts of wind power to markets south of Maine was never even discussed by the task force – an omission that Mills said will come to haunt the state.“If you try to put 2,500 or 3,000 megawatts in northern or eastern Maine – oh, my god, try to build the transmission!” said Mills. “It’s not just the towers, it’s the lines – that’s when I begin to think that the goal is a little farfetched.” https://www.pinetreewatchdog.org/flaws-in-bill-like-skating-with-dull-skates/
